Football: Late field goal lifts Pearce over Falcons

01:04 AM CDT on Saturday, August 28, 2010
By Greg Tepper / The Dallas Morning News

CORINTH -- Richardson Pearce kicker Evan Harmon made a 31-yard field goal as time expired to push Pearce past Lake Dallas 24-23 on Friday night.

Trailing 23-21 without a timeout remaining, Pearce running back Jonathan Cosby was tackled inbounds on a third-down swing pass with 20 seconds remaining. The Pearce field goal unit scurried onto the field, and Harmon calmly knocked through the game-winner as the buzzer sounded.

The winning score capped a furious comeback by Pearce, which fell behind 23-14 with 4:25 remaining on Lake Dallas quarterback Dalyn Williams’ second touchdown run of the night.

On the next offensive play for Pearce, quarterback Mac Morse threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Jared Floyd to pull Pearce to within two points.

After stopping Lake Dallas on its ensuing possession, Morse led Pearce down the field from its own 23, highlighted by a 53-yard pass to Blake Durant to move deep into Lake Dallas territory.

The first three quarters were dominated by the defenses. Lake Dallas defensive backs Travis Simon and Daveon Parrish each intercepted Morse with Pearce within five yards of the end zone, and Pearce’s Bryce Henderson intercepted Lake Dallas’ Williams to set up Pearce’s second touchdown of the game.

Running back Corey Coleman accumulated 147 total yards and a score for Pearce. Williams led Lake Dallas with 156 yards rushing and another 60 yards through the air.
